I did not start Rise Bright because I saw a gap in the market. I started it because I watched my daughter cry over trying to understand mathematics taught in a way that was never designed for kids with brains like hers.
She is eleven. She has ADHD, autism, dyslexia and anxiety. She is also funny, sharp, creative and full of ideas. She drew our logo. But school kept sending home the same message, not in words, but in worksheets she could not finish and reading levels she could not reach. Most things below standard.
Nothing is wrong with her. The tools were wrong for her. One way of teaching for 20+ students does not work for everyone. We are all individuals, we experience things differently. I said to her once, while doing maths: it does not matter how you got to the solution, as long as it is the right one.
I know this because I lived it first, without knowing. I came to Australia from Poland as a teenager. New country, new language, new rules nobody explains. I learned to work everything out myself. No university degree. I went from labouring jobs to a contact centre to service desk to field support, and now I work in cyber defence protecting systems. I built a career on pattern recognition and stubbornness.
Then my daughter was diagnosed. While learning everything I could to help her, I kept recognising myself on every page. Soon after, I was assessed too. Autistic and ADHD, diagnosed in my forties. Forty years of thinking I was just bad at things that everyone else found easy. Forty years of working twice as hard behind the scenes just to look normal. I still remember my dad sitting with me till 1am, trying to help me do my homework so I could understand.
That is the part that gets me. Not my own story, I made it through. It is knowing she was on track to repeat it. Sitting in a classroom, trying her hardest, slowly learning to call herself stupid. Kids like her do not fail because they cannot learn. They fail because everything around them assumes one kind of brain, and they spend all their energy translating instead of learning. I did that translation for forty years. I do not accept it for her, or for any kid.
So I am building the thing I could not find. Rise Bright is an adaptive learning platform for neurodiverse primary school kids. It watches how a child actually learns, where they speed up, where they get stuck, what makes them switch off, and it adjusts to them. Not the other way around. When a kid like my daughter gets it right, the platform does not act surprised. It was built expecting her.
I am not an educator by training. My wife is. I am a dad with a technical background who refused to wait for someone else to fix this. I build it at nights and weekends, after my full-time day job (and a never-ending renovation), because every school term that passes is another term of kids being taught in a way that does not work for them.
My daughter deserves to learn in a way that fits how her mind works. So does yours. So do the kids in your classroom.
That is why Rise Bright exists.
